WHAT A COUNTRY
Do I live in a great country or what? My wife and I used to go to the local racetrack once a week to donate some money to their slot machines. Keeping track of it over the years, we were down a grand total of $250.00, which ain't too shabby for 3 ½ years worth of entertainment. When the province banned smoking, we quit going. Apparently a lot of Americans did too. So much so that the racetrack is pulling out all the stops in trying to convince people to come back.
The latest ploy is to send out tickets to regular customers that have varying cash values which can be redeemed at the slots in the hope you'll leave the money there. My wife got a voucher for $15.00 and mine was for $50.00. It doesn't take a genius to figure out we headed back.
We cashed the vouchers and with $65.00 in our grubby little hands, I said we could just walk out and save the trouble of paying it back a nickel at a time. My wife said that would be unethical so we trotted off (no pun intended) to the machines.
Two hours later, we left with $64. 50. Four bits for two hours worth of a good time. Granted, we could have had more, but my wife is a bigger gambler than I am and just wasted, wasted I say, the extra $1.50 we were up at one point. Remember, we're talking nickel slots here folks.
Anyway, we took the money and headed for a local watering hole where we had a few drinks and a fine lunch. We still came home with $30.00 in our jeans.
Gee, 2 hours of entertainment, drinks and lunch, and cash to spare, all courtesy of the racetrack. Is this a great country or what?

Political Minds
Political Certainty
We have gone on cruises with $20 or $30 each in our pocket per night just to see how long it will last at the slots. Our record is about an hour!
I have started to play Blackjack on cruises, am proficient in playing "basic strategy", know all the schemes and techniques. I am magnificent. I still lose, regularly.
However if one looks as it as entertainment for a period of time, I suppose it's better than other choices.
