Opinionated Ranter - The Adventures of Being Awesome...

I am but a man trying to live the dream. This is how I see the world...

REFUGEES

Just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier, along comes another liberal to try and gain her 15 minutes of fame. In question is Janet Dench of the Canadian Council for Refugees. And just what is this poor, misguided soul carping about? The treatment of refugees in the USA.
Now, we all know that there are genuine refugees who need our help. There are also those who claim refugee status in order to jump the queue in front of legitimate claimants. That really is neither here nor there, but the genuine refugees deserve all the help we can give them.
Ms Dench's problem stems from the fact that she believes the US should be taken off the list of ‘safe havens' for refugees to apply to. The US, you see, has a nasty habit of weeding out the real from the illegitimate and will deport the illegals back to where they came from. In her eyes, this automatically exposes them to torture in the country they ran away from.

Apparently, one year is not enough for these people to apply for refugee status and make their case. She propose that instead of sending the people back from whence they came, they be allowed into Canada instead.
We're already accused of harbouring terrorists who cross the porous Canadian/US border to wreak havoc, and she wants to throw the gates open to let more of them in. Not all refugees are terrorists, but when you're already the laughing stock of the world when it comes to ease of entry, immigration wise, this is such a bone-headed idea that it is almost funny.
Ms Dench says that the US will deport anyone who supports or has supported terrorism. In her world, if a terrorist held a gun to your head and told you to contribute to their cause, then you have aided and abetted terrorists and deserve to be sent back. I cannot believe the US is that narrow minded. I think they would look into each case individually and weigh it on its merits. Besides, the refugee has a year, that's 365 days folks, to apply for refugee status and have their case heard in an immigration hearing. Is that not long enough? If not, what are they hiding? I think the first stop a genuine refugee would make is at the local immigration office to file and they would keep close tabs on what is happening in their case. They wouldn't run and hide like some others do.

If the liberal mind set wants us to leave other countries alone and find their own way in the world, why then should they be bothered if the deportee is subjected to torture. After all, it is the laws of that country that would prevail and none of our business. Isn't this what they're advocating by trying to force the US armed forces out of Iraq?
Ms Dench needs to have her head read.

i have seen people abuse the asylum procedure or claim to be refugees when they lived like king in their homeland. the system is being abused but that should not the real victims from getting a chance to live in US or Canada or anywhere.

Hard as it is, I must agree with Bum again. On the other hand, any country with a brain will weed out the real terrorists and ship them back to wherever they came from. Legitimate refugees are welcome in most of the free countries. Youranter, I hope she doesn't get her way and send all our rejects to you. Unless, of course, they move in with her, personally! Hope she has a really BIG house!

Good blog, as always, Youranter. I remember when Clinton allowed all those refugees into Arkansas, back in the 80's. They weren't real refugees, but the criminals and mental cases Castro didn't want. Clinton didn't bother to check, with all his humanitarian feelings. The "refugees" soon caused a hell of a crime wave. Legitimate refugees are one thing (and deserve our help) but we do have to be careful.

The legitimate ones should be helped. I can't understand how she can claim that the US is not a 'safe haven'. It's sure a lot safer than where these people come from, otherwise, they wouldn't have come in the first place. Bhumika, I agree with you that some lived like kings in their homeland. We had a case where a Sudanese warlord sent his family to live here as refugees. He was wallowing in money and the family was on our welfare rolls. When immigration caught up with them they were sent home. I said good riddance.
