Opinionated Ranter - The Adventures of Being Awesome...

I am but a man trying to live the dream. This is how I see the world...

PAY ATTENTION

I recently wrote an article on anti-Americanism. Wow, was I ever surprised by the response. I didn't think there were that many people out there who just hate the States outright for no good reason.

My insomnia kicked in last night so I thought I'd cruise through some of the authors on this site and that opened my eyes even more. It really makes you shake your head when you read some of this stuff. Some is good, some is bad and some is just junk. But one article stuck in my mind.

This author thinks mid Eastern countries can do no wrong. The question is posited: "Why equate Muslims with terrorism?" So, where do I begin?

This author seems to think everything nasty that's happening in the world today can be deposited directly on the doorstep of the USA. While I might not agree with all foreign policy set out by the States, I am clever enough to know they are looking out for the better interests of countries not as fortunate as they are. And I am clever enough to realize that if push came to shove, I'd rather have the States watching my back than say Iraq or Iran.

According to the author, the USA has reduced humanity and civilization to its lowest common denominator. I suppose it was the USA who drove the planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Centres. I suppose it is the mothers of the USA who sit around in their coffee klatches and brag about what a wonderful bomb-murderer their sons turned out to be. I suppose it is the sons of the USA who go about indiscriminately blowing up restaurants, dance halls and markets just for the fun of it. I suppose it is the Americans who won't give you a fair trial for an alleged crime, but will behead you while filming the action for the world to witness. Those dirty, bastard Yanks!

Never mind that they saved the British during WW II. Never mind that they saved the French during WW II. Never mind that they give billions each year, out of their tax dollars, to send relief to tsunami victims half a world away. Never mind that they spend billions each year, of their tax dollars, to help victims of hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones both near and far. Never mind that they spend billions of dollars each year, of their tax dollars, to feed impoverished people in poor countries. Never mind that their idea of spreading democracy around the world seems to have registered with the people of Iran who risked life and limb to vote.

No, the dirty skunks have dragged civilization to an abyss simply because they are the big kids on the block and can do whatever they please, whenever they want. In the mid East we have Israel. A working democracy that puts countries like Iran and Iraq to shame. Further east, we have India, a country not without its own growing pains, but a democracy nonetheless surrounded by who? Pakistan, hardly a model of democracy and Afghanistan, think Taliban and suppression of basic human rights for women here.

This author seems to think that countries like Lebanon will rise under the dictatorial whims of Shariah Law. Hardly. It seems to me that not long ago Canada spent a fortune rescuing dual-citizenship Lebanese from that country when it was given a slap up-side the head by Israel. She seems to think France will remember all the favours (?) Lebanon has done for it in the past and come to their aid. I think they were very conspicuous in their absence. Then again, France seems to be absent from its NATO duties also.

I'm not bashing all the French here. I'm sure there are a couple of stalwart souls who would gladly go fight for freedom and democracy. They just seem to be in short supply at the moment. And my comments about the Muslims are not racist. Religion is not a race and when the author learns this, perhaps she can write something intelligent.

Well said, as always! You put the whole thing into perspective very nicely. If Islamic states and Shariah law are the best that mankind can come up with, (a), we're in deep trouble! and (b), where are the millions, desperately trying to escape from all those nasty democracies? Probably in hiding with the heroic, courageous Frenchmen, right?

Oh dear, I am in total agreement with both SL and you -- but let's keep that a secret! Your post is, as usual, well written, well conceived and appreciated. Just don't tell SL.

Hi Jim. Don't worry, it'll be our secret, lol. Thanks for stopping in and for the comment. They are always appreciated. When I can write an argument as good as you, look out! There may be trouble in paradise. Hahaha

Ranter,

when I first came to Orble, I thought that everyone was accepted here, regardless of race creed or color...

I have since changed my mind...It's sad, but I have always tried to break the image of "The Ugly American" purposely to show the rest of the world that we're not nearly as bad as they might think...

But no matter how polite, how understanding or how open minded I am to other people's opinions, the lack of respect by some people is appalling...

Since you know me off of Orble, you know I'm pretty much the same off the site as I am on the site...

Unfortunately there are others who just prejudge me because I happen to come from the USA...

Although I try never to prejudge others, this is a bit disturbing...

Now the US has it's problems, yes, it does have a lot of bad elements, yes, but it's still MY country...

I don't go around bashing anyone else's country, yet it seems to be a free for all against the US on Orble...

Shame that some people don't get to know me like you have, and see for themselves that not every American is crude, ill-mannered, obese and self-serving...

Thanks for the great post buddy!

Take care,

Nick

It is quite true about religion is not a race.

We just keep forgetting to put away the "one rotten apple spoils the whole basket" theory.

What I know is we are dealing intelligent individuals that gives negative influences for those innocent-simple-minded followers and making every single advantage as possible. And from what you have written, articles from those writers are most likely wrote all emotional-less logical sense.

I hope that every nation in the world will join hands and unite without looking at each other's believes and religions and stand against what the true darkest enemy in mankind history - Greed and Racism.

Have a blessed day

Nick, one of the things I enjoy here is not knowing a person's nationality, colour, creed etc. But this article just really pissed me off. I try to take everyone at face value, but when I run across stupid articles like this I see red.
Thanks for the comment pal.

Jessicca, I don't know how many times I've said religion is not a race, but some people just never get it and then accuse me of it if I write something they don't happen to like. It's ridiculous.
Thanks for dropping by. Your comments are appreciated.

Ranter,

you know you're dealing with stupidity on a mass scale when someone thinks religion is a race...

Take care,
