MOTORCYCLE MADNESS REVISITED
A few days ago I wrote about a double amputee war vet who received a letter from his condo owners on a Friday stating that he had until the following Monday to remove his custom built motorcycle from the condo's underground parking garage. You can read all about it in my article titled 'Motorcycle Madness'.
Today comes word that the Ontario government has stepped in to help this young hero. Our Human Rights Commission has decreed that the disabled must be accommodated. Therefore Jody Mitic is allowed to keep his bike and park it in the space he pays extra for. He must, however, put down a piece of pplywood under the sidestand so it does not make a hole in the asphalt. Big deal. That is just common sense.
The condo owners say that if they had known of his condition, they never would have issued the removal order. I find this hard to believe, as just about everyone in the building knew Jody was a disabled person. Sorry, but walking around on titanium ankles, feet and legs just ain't natural and you'd probably spot him walking toward you a mile away.
Regardless, Jody gets to keep his spot before he returns to Camp Petawawa with hopes of returning to Afghanistan. How's that for going above and beyond the call of duty? The Taliban cripple you, you can quit the army and stay home, but you decide to go back and try to do whatever you can to help your buddies. This guy is a true hero and that's why the guys at Barrie Harley-Davidson gave him the bike gratis. They know how to honour those who fight for us and our freedom.
The condo owners will also issue an apology to Jody. I hope it is sincere. It is a crying shame that Jody had to go public with this to get a simple compromise with them.
I'm glad Jody got justice, but I'm still pissed off at the attitude the owners took with him. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending.

This story was about a young man's treatment on his return home, with the underlying theme that he wants to go back and support his buddies. The vets seem to know what differences they are making over there, and by trying to return, Jody is, in no small manner, honouring those who fell before him.
The cut and run crowd would dishonour all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice thus far, saying in effect, the same thing these condo owners said to Jody. "We don't give a shit what you did." I think that is disgraceful.
Viet Nam vets were treated the same way when they came home, and again, whether or not you agreed with that war, the troops should have had the support of the home front behind them.
Otherwise it is demoralizing and playing into the hands of the enemy. Remember Tokyo Rose? What are guys like Jody and others supposed to think when they hear the people who voted for the war initially and now vote against it, and want every one to return home post haste? I know I would think my pals died in vain.
Soo yes, it was a 'silly cliche', but it was aimed at those who would disgrace our military men and women the way the condo owners disgraced Jody.
Thanks for bringing up a good point.
Personally? I've never supported the war, but I sure as hell support the men and women who have to fight it every single day...
War is hell, to use another silly "cliche", but god dammit, try supporting the troops and stop pissing about whether it's wrong or it's right...
Does anyone realize that those young men and women are not only having to pay for their own "decent" rations out of their own pockets, but they now have to pay for the proper non-military issued vests to keep bullets from going right through the ones the military hands out...
And, if the get "caught" wearing these vests, they could face prison time and well as discharge?? Then they have to face stupid shit like this once they come home!!??
Oh come one people... our troops and veterans deserve far more respect than this....Try living in a country where there is no military protection and see how ya like it then...
Make ya think twice I'd say...But then again, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one, and that's mine..
LOL
