Opinionated Ranter - The Adventures of Being Awesome...

I am but a man trying to live the dream. This is how I see the world...

KYOTO V (cont'd)

Has the world gone mad? This little item appeared recently in the paper:
"Yesterday (Feb. 2, 2007), the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued the executive summary of its long-awaited Fourth Assessment Report on global warming. Awkwardly, the 21- page document "summarizes" a much longer report that has not yet been finished -- though that report apparently has already been formally adopted before actually existing. Few of the breathless observers commenting on the new IPCC document seem much bothered by this exercise in time travel. As with past Assessment Reports, the easily digestible and more sensationalistic summary document will attract uncritical attention while the technical document it purports to summarize languishes in obscurity. The authors of the IPCC report concluded that the evidence of climate change is "unequivocal," and that it is "very likely" human activities is causing most of this warming."

Read that a couple of times. A summary of a paper that has not even been published yet. The document is collecting dust while the politicos ‘summarize' it.
Al Gore, David Suzuki and their ilk must be proud of themselves. They've managed to pull off one hell of a scam on those too lazy to do a bit of research into the Kyoto Accords. Deliver us from liberal thinking. The sooner, the better.

They're grasping at straws, since all their scientists are re-thinking their previous positions. Maybe it's the beginning of the end... We can only hope....

It doesn't sound like they are all that sure of themselves, or they'd put the whole thing out to read. Good blog!

The evidence just keeps getting stronger, but the celebrity of people like Gore and Suzuki keeps sucking people in. PM Harper a couple of years ago called Kyoto a money sucking scheme. He was right. To my chagrin, he is now on the side of the tree huggers, to gain votes to be sure, but it is sad to see he didn't stick to his guns.

Whoa now, ranter. I'm NOT too lazy.. to review not only the Kyoto protocol, but also all of "The Deniers" series in Canada.com, the UNFCC current report, and the conference of parties (COP) transcripts 3 thru 6. "The Deniers" was a misnomer. Not one of the scientists cited ever denied the existence of Global Warming..what they did disagree with was industrial, wealthy countries jumping into a binding, potentially economically disastrous agreement until more research and better terms were met. This is recognized by the UNFCC themselves : "Speaking at this year’s Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Yvo de Boer, said that an unwarranted fear of economic hardship was the root cause for inaction.
“Industrialized countries fear unwillingness on the part of their developing country competitors to act and are therefore reluctant to take the first step themselves. Developing countries fear that a new round of climate negotiations would impose on them obligations that would hurt their economic goals,” he said." ( UNFCC press release, 22 Jan 2007)..Global Warming is NOT a hoax. Even "The Deniers" will tell you that.

Footnote: "The Deniers" also were pointing out how, in various theories, man wasn't AS MUCH responsible for climate change as alarmists were saying. Moot point. In back of all the finger pointing and blame-establishing, the fact remains that anthropogenically produced greenhouse gases, along with naturally produced ghases, have become a real problem; maybe not for our generation but for our grandchildrens'. To answer your past post on CO2, there are a total of 6 gases that are listed as harmful in the final negotiation: HFCs, PFCs and SF6 as well as the three primary gases (carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane).

You're right D Armenta. A subtle difference, but the scientists who question global warming are cut out of the loop and ignored. They seem to agree that the Earth is warming, but conclude this would have happened anyway, with or without man's help. As PM Harper said, Kyoto is nothing more than a money sucking scheme. From what I've read, it seems everyone agrees that even if we started from Kyoto's deadlines or rules today, nothing much would happen for centuries. I'll be blogging more on this and look forward to your comments. Thanks for writing.

Oh my god. You mean..I've gotta sit down. You posted an intelligent response, didn't call me names or accuse me of anything, and didn't take a different point of view as a personal attack..I'm in shock. I just came from AC, where all of the aforementioned happen on a daily basis. I can't write in that kind of narrowminded environment, unless I want to cover innocuous themes that are sure not to offend anyone..like baking bread. I enjoy some of the writers on AC, but am feeling stifled lately. Thanks for turning me on to your blog..very refreshing! Looking forward to more posts from you (and probably debating a lot of them, hee hee..)

Thanks again, D.

No D., I'm not here to insult anyone. I am just looking for intelligent debate. I welcome opposing views as they teach me things and perhaps point out things I might have missed. I left AC too because I got fed up with the childish name calling and all. I hope you decide to stay here and write. I think I would enjoy reading you. We will gisagree in the future, I'm sure, but that's not always a bad thing. I'e been thinking about your comment and I should have a new blog on the subject either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Stay tuned and welcome to Orble.

Yeah, we probably will-but that's because I live to check facts and argue.(!) I recently called a few of the more popular writers on their facts and was completely castigated for doing it, even though I did so politely and respectfully. My pet peeve is people who are publishing things that they pass off as facts when they are opinions. When you make your writing public, I think you have a responsibility to tell the readers up front if it's fact or opinion. I like the way you state right up front here that your pieces are your opinions, based upon facts that you cite references to. I liked your old stuff on AC because you didn't seem to have any fear of others' opinions. I have none either, but I get REAL tired of the pissy comments and the nasty messages from narrowminded types who seemingly have nothing better to do than look for insults where there are none. Yes, I will stay here and write and will follow your blogs too. Actually we have the same take on a lot of things but you know, I really like to debate. Glad you don't take it personally. I'm looking forward to your next piece and will start here myself. Thanks for being real.

D.

I love debating too, D. I learned at my grandfather's knee. Nothing pleased him more than to take a view, and even if you agreed with it, you were expected to take the opposite side. I always thought that blogs were just opinoins, but I think if you quote something or someone, you should give credit where it is due. The AC seems to be filled with liberal brats who can't put a thought together, so they resort to name calling and other childish things.
It will take me a bit to finish reading your articles, but I look forward to them and am glad you're coming over. We have some loonies here too, but not as many as AC.
Welcome and I think I can safely say for the Orble team, we're glad to have you.

It's too early in the morning, LOL. That last comment was from me, D. I forgot to sign in.
