Opinionated Ranter - The Adventures of Being Awesome...

I am but a man trying to live the dream. This is how I see the world...

HATING BUSH

I watched the McLaughlin Report on PBS the other day and it got me wondering just how much Americans hate George W.

We've all seen the reports about the bridge that collapsed in Wisconsin and I'm sure we can come to an agreement that it was a case of shoddy maintenance. So how is George responsible for that?

The way I understand it, the feds are responsible for setting standards on how highways, bi-ways, bridges and tunnels are built and it is up to the state to ensure that they are built to those standards. It is also up to the state to maitain those highways, bi-ways, bridges and tunnels.

Yet here was a liberal columnist saying it was all his fault. I suppose the only way she'd scream louder is if Bush actually did get into the micro-management of society that she is demanding and then tell him to butt the hell out. I couldn't believe her attitude.

She's a regular on the panel and even her liberal buddy was looking at her like she'd just dropped all her marbles. The cons were making a point they really didn't have to make, just to keep her happy I suppose, but trust me, there was plenty of eye rolling going on.

Bush is not popular right now, but does he deserve this? I don't think so. I know what our federal government is supposed to look after, what the provincial government is responsible for and what the municipalities are supposed to look after. I don't believe it is too much different in the states. And this woman is supposed to be a respected journalist/columnist. I'm just a blogger and I can figure out simple things like this.

If she was in my employ, I'd be having serious, second thoughts about how much longer I'd be paying her.

You have an excellent point, Youranter! The libs have to be able to blame Bush for everything while never taking responsibility for anything, thrmselves. The bridge collapse is just the latest aspect of their tirades. They managed to blame him for Katrina, too. The federal gov't does indeed set the standards for construction and allows the states to appropriate the money to make sure things get repaired or replaced when needed. However, after 40 plus years of Louisiana having levy money allocated and spending it on everything else, they had to blame Bush when the elderly livies failed. The bridge was scheduled for repair, but obviously not soon enough. Check the state politics if you're curious, and you'll usually find the damage that went too long ignored was during a lib/dem regime.

Personally, I think Bush's low numbers are not accurate. The lib/dem congress has the lowest rating in their history (or very nearly so) and the media seldom mentions it, while yelling about his poor polling. If the "Surge" works and the situation in Iraq improves, his ratings will keep rising and the lib/dems will see theirs dropping off the bottom of the scale.

Ranter,

*Rolls* eyes, ok I'm not gonna get into a political debate over a bridge collapse...

That's ridiculous...but I will say this, shoddy workmanship has NOTHING to do with Republicans or Democrats!

Phuleasseeee!!! It's who pays off whom for the cheapest labor possible, probably all done by illegal aliens!

Now I'm not a fan of Mr. Bush...Never have been, never will be...But blaming a bridge collapse on him is a bit extreme...

As is blaming an entire political party for poor workmanship! Who CARES!?

It collapsed and that's that...

Take care,

Nick

Hi SL. I was going to mention Katrina and all the other stuff they are trying to hang on the guy, but I think I made my point. It's BS and everyone except this woman knows it. Sad. I thought McLaughlin had some credible debaters on his show. I'll keep watching it, but she will have to do a lot better in the future.
Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Nick. You're right. Blaming whichever party is ludicrous. I'm surprised that you think contractors may be paid off or get kickbacks though. That doesn't happen in gov't, does it? You're not trying to say they lie to us are you? Doesn't all the tax money the gov't receives from gas and deisel sales go right back into keeping up infrastructure? I'm disillusioned now. *Sulking*
