FINALLY
Okay kiddies, let's forget Rosie for a minute, pull our eyes away from American Idol for a few seconds, and wallow in some truly heart-warming news.
Cindy Sheehan is riding off into the sunset.
Yep, she's finally calling it quits. She's the mother of the young man who died in Iraq defending her freedom to be an asshole. She says she's done being the public face of her idiotic peace movement. "I've been wondering why I'm killing myself and wondering why the Democrats caved in to George Bush," Sheehan told The Associated Press while driving from her property in Crawford to the airport, where she planned to return to her native California.
Well Cindy-poo, here's a clue. Maybe the Dems are fed up with your theatrics. You know, camping out in front of Bush's ranch in the hopes that he might deem you worthy enough to grant an audience to? Or how about the fact that your own family got their fill of you and turned their backs on your ‘cause'? Maybe even the Dems are coming to realize the US shouldn't be running willy-nilly away from Iraq or Afghanistan? Maybe they are starting to come around to seeing the war on terror as being a real threat to the life, liberty and freedom your son died to protect.
"I'm going home for awhile to try and be normal," she said. This has to be a joke. Sheehan is as far from normal as one can get and the fact she's going back to California just reinforces that idea. There are many normal, sane people in California, but it seems they are outnumbered by the lunatic fringe and Sheehan certainly falls into that latter category.
Now, let's not feel too sorry for her. She still has her friends. Does the name Hugo Chavez ring any bells? Oh right, he's that nut-bar leftist dictator way far away in Venezuela, the one trying to convince Americans he's a good guy by letting them buy cheap oil from Citgo, which he owns. The same goody two-shoes who closes radio and television stations that disagree with him. Fidel Castro's biggest fan hoping to be his successor. Yeah, she can always go visit him again.
"Her politics have hurt a lot of people, including the troops and their families, but most of us who support the war on terror understand she is hurt very deeply," said Kristinn Taylor, spokesman for FreeRepublic.com. I don't think she's hurt as much as she's just a nut. Maybe Hanoi Jane will give her comfort. Or we could send John Kerry out to have a little tete-a-tete with her.
Sheehan said she sacrificed a 29-year marriage and endured threats to put all her energy into stopping the war. That says a lot. Twenty-nine years of marriage and your husband says you're crazy must be some kind of a clue. But she got so wrapped up in herself, she couldn't see it. Dwindling crowds at her Crawford protests since her initial vigil might also have been an early warning sign. Sheehan told the AP that she had considered leaving the peace movement since last summer while recovering from surgery. I wonder if it was a brain transplant?
Her Crawford, Texas site is for sale though. Maybe the government could buy it and build a mental hospital on it in her memory.

I'm not a big proponent on the war either...I have my own personal beliefs and opinions on the subject...
But you won't hear me screaming about them at the top of my lungs where our boys and girls overseas fighting can hear them...
A lot of young men and women have died during this war, but you don't see their Mothers or Father's out there with picket signs and bullhorns...
They accept their losses with quiet dignity and go right on supporting other families with soldiers overseas...
I think Sheehan may have had her heart in the right place at first, but her cause got way out of hand and became a monstrous, ugly black thing that consumed everyone around her...
It has made a mockery of her son's death instead of vilify it...
Very well written piece my friend, very well done!
Take care,
Nick
