ELITISM
It seems Hillary doesn't care too much for Al Gore staging rock concerts to keep his name in the news. So, in the manner of Cher, Madonna and Bono, she is dropping her last name during her run for the presidency and wants to be known as simply ‘Hillary'.
The poor woman has such a hard time trying to figure out who she is. In Arkansas, she was Hillary Rodham. In the White House, she was Hillary Rodham Clinton. Then in her run for a senate seat, she was Hillary Clinton. Having achieved that lofty office, she is now Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. This woman changes names more often than some people change their underwear. And she wants to be leader of the USA? I suppose it makes sense when you consider she comes from the John Kerry School of Voting. You know, I voted on it before I voted against it? I hope she gets that out of her system before she once again becomes ‘We are the president'.
Gil Troy, a McGill University history professor and author of a biography on the former first lady, says, "There are very few people in our popular culture universe who are defined by one name. If you are up in that stratosphere, like Hillary Clinton is, why not play to your strength and exploit that for all it's worth?" I have to shake my head at what stratosphere he is referring to. Cher, Madonna and Bono for that matter are so full of themselves, they don't know what the common man is about anymore. I'd put as much distance between them and myself from them as I could. Cher is, today, about 90% actual plastic, Madonna is too posh to push and resorts to adopting children from Africa and Bono tells other countries how to spend their tax dollars while he evades taxes in his own.
She hasn't quite hit the big time yet though. When weighty issues demand more formal statements of policy, she supplements "Hillary" with Clinton. So, Slick Willy is still good for some things. Like getting people to take her seriously.
But Gil Troy throws me. McGill is a Canadian university. When I read what he said, I thought of someone else who only uses one name. Queen Elizabeth II. Does Hillary want to be up there with her too? Hmmmmmmm. Didn't they want to make George Washington a king when the revolution was finally over?
