CAN WE GET IT STRAIGHT?
I recently wrote an article about the hatred the French hold toward Americans and anything that the USA stands for. I will not back down from what I said and neither will I rehash the whole story now.
The article generated a great deal of comment and I was struck by the ignorance of some people who wrote to comment on it. I was called a racist, as I have been in the past, and I'm getting rather tired of it.
As far as I know there are four races on the face of the Earth. Caucasian, Negroid, Oriental and Native American.
Religion does not constitute a race. Why people who get offended if you disagree with whatever religion they happen to follow is beyond me. White people can be Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Buddhist, Jewish, Jehovah's Witnesses, or Hari Khrishna. Certainly that does not make any of those religions a race.
Nations do not make a race either. You may not like the Germans, French, English, Americans or Japanese. Just because you might live in a certain country or have a certain ethnic background, that does not make you a race.
There are white, black, yellow and red Canadians. They are Canadians first and their race comes second. There are white, black, yellow and red Muslims. They are Muslims first and race comes second. Why can't people make, or even see, the differentiation?
If pounding the French because they hate the Americans makes me a racist, wouldn't I have to hate myself? I happen to be a white guy as are most French people. If coming down on Muslims makes me a racist, wouldn't I have to hate Jews, Buddhists, Hari Khrishnas and Jehovah's Witnesses too? I happen to be Lutheran.
When will these people 1) learn how to read and 2) learn the difference between nationality, religion and race?

they will never learn the difference because they are too ignorant or too uneducated or too prejudice themselves to even consider anyone else's point of view...
Anytime anyone on Orble makes a blanket statement or expresses an opinion that doesn't fit into thier little box, this is what happens...
And you a racist?! Gimme a fuckin break! You're about as racist as Ghandi...
And I say if the truth hurts, so be it...You haven't said anything out of line, or anything that isn't a well known fact...
Some people have such myopic views of the world that it's pathetic....
They'll never ever learn...And they'll continue to attack you on a personal level because that's the only way they know how to communicate...Through violence and stupidity...
Take care buddy,
Nick

Yes, it's frustrating when people skim a post and jump to conclusions. I'm still wading through all of the comments since your first post on anti-Americanism.
I hope you don't think my recent post about being tired of having non-veterans speak for veterans was aimed in your direction; reading some of the mean comments were just kind of the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
This was not the first time I've read slighting comments about Americans--and that usually doesn't bother me, comes with the territory I suppose. Some of the response posts about Americans attacking France were pretty funny, too--humorous ribbing never bothers me either.
I just grew impatient with being lumped in with warmongers, greedy capitalists, et.al. I also grew tired of the other faction coming back with the equally offensive "Hey, we saved your ass in WWII!"
Both sides are being short-sighted and neither have all of the facts.
So I said my piece.
I admire Mrs. M, too, for being able to disagree with grace and wit--and your answers to her were in the same vein.
Why is it that some issues bring the ignoramii crawling out of the woodwork??

I always think of myself as Canadian, having been born and raised there, but I get no end of people insisting that I'm not 'really' Canadian.

I don't know the in's and out's of races, but it seems easy to me. maybe that makes me simple. A white guy is Caucasian, a black guy is Negroid, a red guy is Native and a yellow guy is Oriental (or is Occidental the right word? Not sure on that, sorry) Why the rocket guys have a problem with it is beyond me. Maybe they're too PC. Oh. that big hairy guy behind you? That's a Sasquatch. DUCK!
