I recently wrote an article entitled ‘Journalism'. As I've said so many times in the past, some people just don't know how to read. One comment I had stated, "Your so called fundamentalist Islamic enemy doesn't exist." I'm not sure what planet this guy is living on and it's such a ridiculous statement that it isn't worth replying to. However, just to try to show him the world is not encapsulated in his little computer cubicle, or his little mind for that matter, I offer the following.
The other day, in Turkey, assailants tied up three people at a publishing house that distributes Bibles in Turkey and then slit their throats. Now, anyone with a clear mind can see this is not the work of fundamentalist Islamics. However, I have a hard time getting my head around the idea that it was Christians, Jews, Buddhists or Sikhs that did it. One more time for the reading challenged, not all Muslims or Islamists are terrorists, so there is no need to take this personally. Unless, of course, you support terrorism. I purposely typed that slowly so that it might finally sink in to those who have to read slowly, or have it read to them.
The killings occurred in Malatya, a city in central Turkey known as a hotbed of Turkish nationalism and is the hometown of Mehmet Ali Agca, the gunman who tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981. Two of the victims at the Zirve publishing house were found already dead and the third died after being taken to the hospital. All had their throats cut and their hands and legs were bound. Let's take a pause here to consider if Turkey has a large Muslim population. Yup. Let's take a further pause to consider if these murderers represent all Muslims. Nope.
Police have detained four suspects and are investigating another man who suffered head injuries when he jumped from the window of the publisher's office and may have been involved in the attack. He is reported to be undergoing surgery for his injury.
Christians make up less than one percent of Turkey's population, 70 million. They have increasingly become targets amid what some think is a rising tide of hostility toward non- Muslims. In February 2006, a teenager fatally shot a Catholic priest as he prayed in his church, and two more Catholic priests were attacked later in the year. Earlier this year a gunman killed Armenian Christian editor Hrant Dink.
Gee, my apologies. The fundamental Islamic enemy does not exist. That's why we kidnap and behead innocents here in North America. That's why we use bomb murderers to wipe out 168 people at once. That's why we tie up Bible publishers and slit their throats.
Wake up and smell the coffee. The fanatical wing of Islam plays by no rules, while the coalition forces are held to a higher standard. Maybe if Islam crawled out of the 7th century they too could be part of a better world.
